Is it possible that an exceptional private residence could engage the senses to the extent that it could actually be considered “sensual”? La’I Loa, the newest unparalleled condominium development by Ledcor (Honua Kai, Kaanapali), a developer known for integrity and a commitment to quality since 1996, may be just such a project. To further cement the pedigree of this evolution of exceptional Wailea residences, the team includes the architectural firm of Weinstein A + U (Papali Wailea), design firm Philpotts Interiors (Park Lane Ala Moana and Four Seasons Resort Ko Olina), and PBR Hawaii Landscape Architecture, known for their integrated approach to landscape architecture for over 50 years.
La’I Loa—loosely translated as an eternal, everlasting place of peace, harmony, and tranquility—truly does represent the evolution of world-class developments in Wailea.
Beginning with Wailea Beach Villas in 2002, then Kai Malu, Papali Wailea, Ho’olei, Andaz Residences, Keala O’Wailea, and Makali’I, La’I Loa is the perfection of form for which its predecessors laid the groundwork.
Spanning 13 acres of endless ocean and mountain views, 15 buildings offer a combination of (2) two-bedroom, (2) three-bedroom, and (1) spacious 2,587 square foot four-bedroom penthouse unit that covers the entire top floor of each building. With “vanishing” pocket doors each unit offers the kind of seamless indoor/outdoor lifestyle that has come to define the Hawaiian experience. Warm, earthy tones simultaneously soothe and embrace. Sculptured, lushly landscaped pedestrian-friendly pathways connect residents to the community at large and beaches, shopping, and dining experiences at nearby resorts—no need to pull the car out of the garage.
An integral part of this offering is the impressive collection of community amenities you will enjoy as an owner. Continuing with their theme of “healthy lifestyle”, the developers have integrated a stunning pool terrace with expansive ocean views, two 25-yard swimming lanes, and an array of other options for those looking for more than a “lounge around the pool” experience. The list includes:
- Island view Fitness Center
- Men’s and women’s spa facilities with steam room and sauna
- Spa tub with sunset views
- Shade pavilion featuring elegant lounge seating
- Private outdoor dining area
- Recreation lawn terrace for yoga, bocce ball, lawn games and more
- Fire pit with open sky views
Of course, other amenities in the Wailea community include three championship golf courses, tennis, hiking and biking, endless water sports, and the aforementioned world-class dining and shopping! Sorry, no short-term rentals.
Here’s a quick overview of the highlights comparing year-end 2020 to year-end 2019. The surprising part is that if the pandemic had any effect on the Maui housing market, it was a positive effect. As I have reported over the past several months, single family homes have definitely seen an uptick in demand, but condos have done much better than I expected.
Median sales price on homes up by 16.9%, and condos 22.3%! Wow! Those numbers are even higher than the “glory” years of 2004-2008, further proof that Maui continues to be arguably the most desirable safe harbor for people to relocate to or invest their money in. For complete year-end 2020 statistics, click here.
Even though our hotel and condo occupancy rates continue to hover at or below 20% (in other words, many thousands fewer visitors than we usually have this time of year) our Covid
numbers continue to spike. Consensus seems to be that the majority of cases are a result of “community spread” and not attributable to the small number of visitors coming to the island.
But what a difference a month makes. As I noted some increase in last month’s Covid report from slightly over 1 new case per day prior to pre-tests sending visitors our way to 6 or 8 cases 45 days later. It was not something to be particularly concerned about. Now, we have had days with over 50 new cases and a daily average of 30+ new cases. If you are reading this from anywhere on the planet Earth right now your likely experiencing much the same.
So doesn’t it seem like we’re all stuck in this continuing cycle of shutting things down to get some “control” over the virus, only to open things up again to see things spike. Repeat, repeat, repeat. What did Confucius say about that?
And as always since the beginning, the one constant remains the number of people who continue to have distain for wearing a mask, social distancing, and washing hands. Or worse yet, those who continue to claim the virus doesn’t really exist and is a fabricated fantasy of the media.
And is it any surprise that the United States—the wealthiest and most spoiled and self-centered country in the world—continues to lead in all categories of number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths? I mean, WTF! (World Trade Forever, btw)
Oh, but don’t get me started. 🙂
Maui Meadows has always been a collection of eclectic homes on large ½ acre lots, often with a separate cottage on site. This Featured Property clearly meets those criteria. Substantively remodeled in 2018, this 3BR/2BA single-level home with large lanai features Santos mahogany wood floors, maple wood cabinetry and granite countertops in the kitchen and near-new appliances.
The 1,720 sq. ft. interior lives much larger thanks the open floor plan and vaulted ceilings. Completing the offering is the 560 ft. 1BR/1BA separate cottage, aka “the mortgage payer”!
Truly a great buy in today’s escalating market.
